SlytherClaw Relationships

Blog· Hogwarts House Relationships

slytherclaw (slytherin + ravenclaw) relationships

Slytherins and Ravenclaws can make up a very cerebral, “knowing-glances” kind of relationship. And they’re often sparked by a verbal sparring match.

Slytherins are known for their ambition, resourcefulness, drive and selective loyalty. You’ve got to prove your worth to a Slytherin with results.

Ravenclaws are known for their sharp wit, creativity, wisdom and intelligence. If you’re not interesting, they’re not interested.

Ravenclaws love a puzzle, and a Slytherin will intrigue—and often confuse—them. They seek to know and understand things for themselves rather than taking information second hand, so a reputation doesn’t scare them off.

Meanwhile, a Slytherin can’t let potential go to waste. They’re quick to recognize a Ravenclaw’s particular brand of genius (even if they are eccentric) and appreciate the intelligence and wit that is used for the love of learning and creating rather than manipulating.

Plus, you’ll see the Slytherin go all soft-eyed at their Ravenclaws quirky habits (which they once found annoying) and excitability while the Ravenclaw is continuously wowed by their Slytherin’s efficiency and hidden depth.

They make a cute couple in a nerdy, might-take-over-the-world-might-blow-things-up kind of way!

1. Eleanor Shellstrop (Slytherin) and Chidi Anagonye (Ravenclaw)

Eleanor has never claimed to be a good person. She thinks people are, as a whole, pretty terrible.

She effectively raised herself as a kid, since her parents were so unreliable. She had ambitions for a better life, so she worked hard for emancipation. Eleanor takes care of herself, since she knows no one else will. Classic Slytherin self-preservation.

Then we have Chidi. A man who has dedicated his life to understanding the keys to human morality. Are we truly good or evil? Can we change? It’s an ever-changing mystery for him and he’s happy to share all that he knows to help others come to their own conclusions.

He’s open minded and always learning (although he can go too far and become a panicked, indecisive wreck over choosing a milk alternative for his latte. Are almonds bad now? What does that say about him?!)

Eleanor starts as an ambitious student for an eccentric professor and they grow together to become full-on realm investigators who take care of their crew and aren’t satisfied with easy answers.

Chidi openly recognizes Eleanor’s strengths and goodness, but he won’t let her slide on the facts when she does something terrible. Over time, Eleanor’s decisiveness pushes Chidi to take a stand for himself while she slowly—begrudgingly—grows accustomed to his quirks and sweater vests.

They’re soft ™ and nerdy and it’s adorable okaaaay?

2. Wolfgang Bogdanow (Slytherin) and Kala Dandekar (Ravenclaw)

Wolfgang is a certifiable bad boy with his leather jackets, brooding rebel attitude and ride-or-die loyalty to the people under his protection. He’s a survivor and doesn’t waste time deliberating. If there’s something he wants, he finds a way to get it. He doesn’t care if that means working with a Berlin crime ring or having to get a little blood on his hands. Wolfgang doesn’t trust anyone but himself. Other people will only disappoint him.

Kala rejects such sweeping statements. She’s a scientist—a good one, too. She helps the Sense8’s save Riley with her medical knowledge and creates a bomb out of supplies from the janitor’s closet to help Wolfgang escape an evil government facility. She juggles her religion and her pursuit of science, but never lets anyone tell her what to think.

Her problem is trusting what she knows when it comes to her heart and relationships. It’s not something she can reason her way through, even if her fiancé Rajan is perfectly adequate (and rich) and her family likes him. Wolfgang doesn’t try to reason his way through love and lust.

Wolfgang’s confidence draws Kala in and has her question what she actually wants in her life while Kala’s sharp mind becomes something Wolfgang can trust and rely on.  It’s a long-distance sensate relationship, but it’s a start!

3. Monica Geller (Slytherin) and Chandler Bing (Ravenclaw)

Monica is competitive, ambitious and takes a “my way or the highway” approach to her living spaces. She needs someone who can get to her level, or at least get out of her way when she’s on a roll. She knows she can be bossy, abrasive and high-strung, but she won’t compromise on her dream of being a real chef.

via GIPHY

Chandler isn’t super goal-driven. He works as…whatever his job is (a transponster?) to make a decent amount of money, go to Knicks games and make sure Joey doesn’t die in the wild. Really, he enjoys sharpening his wit with well-timed jokes that get a laugh out of his friends. He’s creative, embraces the absurd, and can be a real problem-solver when someone needs advice.

Monica takes a while to see Chandler as more than just her ridiculous, funny-guy friend. And Chandler is just as surprised as anyone when he starts finding Monica’s Type A behavior as endearing (and even a good idea. She organizes her towels that way for a reason—you never know if you’ll have guests!)

Chandler and Monica meet at the same level to start their lives. She doesn’t slow down her relentless pursuits, but she does allow herself to be a bit more open to having fun for the sake of having fun. And Chandler doesn’t magically have plans to be a CEO once they’re dating, but he steps up to commit to Monica and face his fears of screwing up as a father. If Monica believe he’s got a spark of something, well, he’ll trust her even if he doesn’t know for sure yet.
