Finding Romance Novels in Spanish

Every once in a while, a reader will ask me where they can find romance books written in Spanish. I don’t speak the language but I know a few reliable resources.

Like most romance authors, when one of my books is translated in another language, I donate the print books to the public library systems in the United States who request them. Since these libraries only take translations that best serve their communities, if you’re not in an area with a large Spanish-speaking population, it’s hard to find a good selection of novels in Spanish at your local library.

So the first place I recommend readers go to is Overdrive. This is a digital content distributor for libraries.

To find romance novels in Spanish, hit Browse Collection.

Then click on romance.

Scroll down to the filter option and find Spanish. Click on that.

This will give you options Overdrive has available in their database. Click on the book cover that you’re interested in and it will tell you if there’s a copy in your public library.

If it doesn’t give you a list of public libraries that have the books you want, add your ZIP or postal code in the search field. There might be a library branch nearby that has a copy.

Do you know the author or title of the book you want? Just add the information in the search field. I wouldn’t recommend the search field if you’re just browsing. It can be a very frustrating process.

Overdrive is one of the only places I know that provides audio formats for novels in Spanish. To find what’s available, go back to the filter options. Make sure it’s still for the Spanish language. Scroll down Media Type and click Audiobook.

For fans of Harlequin Mills & Boon, it’s very difficult to find the novels in Spanish. You no longer can get the Spanish editions directly from Harlequin.com. The publisher now directs customers to HarperCollins Iberica.

Based in Spain, this division of HarperCollins publishes print and digital editions for HarperCollins and Harlequin labels.

The imprints or labels have different names. For example, the Presents books are under the Bianca line and the Dare books are published as Harlequin Intense.

It’s unlikely that books written in English are released at the same time in other languages. Most of the new releases on the HarperCollins Iberica site were first published years ago in English.

If you’re hesitant to buy because you’re unsure about the translation quality, or you’re not sure about the author or storyline, visit Harlequineras.com. This review site discusses romance novels published by HarperCollins Iberica. It’s updated frequently. You can search for books by author or by mini-series.

I hope you find these websites helpful. And always let the librarians, booksellers and publishers know that you’re looking for romance novels in Spanish. They want to meet the needs and support the interest of the communities they serve.

Find your next favorite romance novel using these search methods.
