Every Saturday I share some questions I receive from readers, bloggers and writers. Today’s question is:
Do you think a book you want to throw against the wall is a book worth reading?
While there have been occasions when I wanted to throw a book against the wall, I can still see why an editor or another reader loved this book. Will I finish the book? No.

Especially for judging books (tis the season now, they are showing up in the mailbox!) – I can very easily give a book I just wasn’t thrilled with a high rating. I can see a book that is well written, well put together and thought out, but for me personally, just wasn’t something I picked up in the past year, and I am not going to miss when I pass it along to someone else.

I read books differently when I’m judging one for a contest. I have to finish it even if I don’t like it, and I think I’m more analytical when I’m reading the book. I’m not reading it for enjoyment–but I’m always thrilled when I find one that sweeps me away.
I will say that a few books bored me beyond reason… one actually took me 2 years to finish, but I do finish them.
Wow! I’m in awe that you stuck with the book. I’m a three chapters or you’re out kind of reader. If I don’t like it by the end of the third chapter, I give up.
Yes it has happen
I don’t know if I’ve ever actually thrown a book against the wall. But there have been times when I immediately toss it in the donation bag.
I’ve never actually thrown a book at the wall, but I have tossed it aside after giving it more than one try.
I recently did that with a book I had been waiting a long time to read. It was from an author I enjoy reading but for some reason I didn’t like the book. I gave it a couple of tries but I gave up. Sometimes a book just doesn’t click with the reader.
Most of the time I will finish a book but there have been a few times that I have ran into a book that I just didn’t finish, but each person is different, what I thought was really bad may be good to someone else.
Each reader is different! There have been books that my twin sister insists I should read. Sometimes the things she adores about a book are the very things I can’t stand!
If I can’t get into a story after the first five chapters, I end up skimming
the rest of the book. Thankfully, this hasn’t happenned very often with book purchases.
There are times when I find myself skimming. That’s when I have to stop and go back a couple of pages and try again. If I start skimming again, I just stop completely and look for another book.
If it’s not that interesting, I usually just skim through the rest of the book
