Lately I’ve been in my reading comfort zone. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but sometimes I need to expand my horizons as a reader. The only way I know how to break my comfort zone is by reading new-to-me authors.
This week I’m trying Bella Andre’s newest. I know she’s written lots of books and is wildly popular. So why haven’t I read her books before? I have no idea so I downloaded her book and I’m pushing past my reading comfort zone. I’ll let you know what I think of her book later this week.

I’m finishing the most current book today in a series by Mark Del Franco who was a new to me Urban Fantasy author last week. Since I’ve read 6 of his books in the last 7 or so days, I’d have to say I’m comfortable now.
I subscribe to many book blogs so I’m constantly finding out about new authors and being reminded about ones who might have gotten forgotten.
I am currently reading Anjali Banerjee’s “Enchanting Lily” and I would definitely consider it a comfort read. I am about a third of the way through the book and I need to get her other book “Haunting Jasmine”.
Yep, that’s just about all the getting out of my comfort zone that I’ll do, try new authors. I like the subgenres that I like, not all that thrilled with ones that I don’t… besides, while I made a pretty nice dent in the old TBR pile during the summer, I still have plenty from my comfort zone left to go, and plenty on the TBB list. Perhaps if the day comes that I run out of all of that, I’ll expand my horizons.
Lois
Anne — urban fantasy is so far out of my comfort zone!
Lori — I’ve heard wonderful things about Anjali Banerjee’s work.
Lois — I haven’t made quite a dent in my TBR. Must work on that!
I just finished a book by Grace Burrows and loved it. It was my first taste of her work and now hope to enjoy more from her. I really like trying new authors… get a taste of something new, but with my book budget, I tend to buy the authors that I really love and have loaded on my shelves first.
I read pretty much anything I avoid horror and tech manuals but Love urban fantasy and romance and will read pretty much anything else. For me stretching means trying a “new to me” author. I just finished The Arrangement by Lillith Payne. Loved it and she is a “new to me” author.
No, it’s a new to me author.
I’m currently reading Carlene Thompson’s “Nowhere to Hide.” It’s not a comfort read because this is the first book I’ve read by this author.
Colleen — I’m the same way. When I find an author I like I buy as many of their books as I can. It causes quite a dent in my book budget
Donna — I haven’t heard of Lillith Payne. I need to investigate!
bn100 — It’s always a risk trying a new-to-you author.
Jane — If I really want to expand my horizons, I should read something like Carlene Thompson. But I’m a wuss when it comes to suspense.
My current books are comfort reads, since they are from authors author I read frequently. Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas is a wonderful historical romance, an emotional book with memorable characters. I highly recommend it. Now that I’ve finished it, I amm moving on to a mystery/thriller–Bones are Forever, by Kathy Reichs.
I’m re-reading an old Sandra Brown book and I would consider it a comfort read.
My current read is a comfort read. I do branch out more than I did, but I continue to return to my first loves.
I would not call it a comfort read at the moment but am enjoying it. I really cannot say til I finish it.
I’m reading “Misery” by Stephen King at the moment, so my comfort zone is nowhere to be seen.
