Working Writers

I met quite a few authors at the RWA conference who had day jobs and did most of their writing in the evenings and weekends. Some of their jobs surprised me while others offered an insight into the world they create on the page. For example, it was no surprise that the military romance author I met works for the Department of Defense. I should have suspected! I always have a better understanding of military life when I read her books.

And then in a moment of strange coincidence, I read “The Surprising Early Jobs of Our Favorite Writers” by Hazel Taylor. Some of these jobs interfered with the writing while others offered inspiration!
