How to celebrate a royal wedding

1. Sleep in. Waking up in the middle of the night to watch a wedding is old school and best left to those who really want to see the event live. Thanks to the Internet, you can watch the ceremony on your own schedule.

2. Join fellow enthusiasts. My town has a British restaurant that offered a special “Royal tea” for the event. The place was packed with women of various ages who all shared a festive spirit. We drank tea, ate cucumber sandwiches and commented on the hats while we watched a replay of the wedding.

3. Eat cake. So what if it was 10:30 in the morning? It’s a royal wedding. I’m told that one was a traditional English wedding cake.  It was a fruitcake with a thin layer of marzipan and frosting. The other cake was the groom’s cake. It was called Tiffin, which isn’t traditional, but our server (who was wearing an adorable tiara for the occasion) told us that the Tiffin was Prince William’s favorite cake.

4. Wish the couple well. Raise your tea cup or champagne glass and toast the bride and groom. Sit back, relax, and enjoy and the joyous occasion.
