I discovered something about myself as I read HelenKay Dimon’s Guns and the Girl Next Door: I can be a bloodthirsty cheerleader. Whenever Mia and Holden faced a threat or an enemy, I kept thinking, Shoot him. Take him down. Run him with your car and
back up for good measure.
In my defense, you really want to cheer on Mia and Holden. Mia is smart, scrappy and frightened. The violence and destruction affect her. She recently got out of a situation that makes her question her instincts, and there are moments when she has to decide if her instincts about Holden are correct. Holden is my favorite kind of hero. He’s strong, protective and hates his weaknesses. It’s his vulnerabilities that made me melt.
Mia and Holden are a great couple. I love the sarcasm and the heat between them. The storyline is action-packed, the brisk pace never lets up, and I really couldn’t predict what would happen next. Guns and the Girl Next Door is a must-read.
