Romantic Movie of the Week: Jerry Maguire

Jerry Maguire, a sports agent, has a change of heart in the way he does business. His colleagues think it’s more like a nervous breakdown. When he writes his idealized mission statement and gives everyone in the office a copy, Jerry gets fired. The only people who believe in him is Rod, his only client, and Dorothy, a woman who is infatuated with him.

Jerry tries to practice his new beliefs and struggles with disappointments and setbacks. Everyone thinks he’s a loser in an industry that only cares about winners. While Jerry wishes he never wrote the memo that suggests sports agents should worry more about their clients than money, Dorothy caught a glimpse of Jerry’s authentic self in that memo. She wants him to follow his ideals, and is willing to be there every step of the way. But while she loves Jerry, is he taking advantage of her loyalty?

Jerry Maguire has two or three famous romantic quotes, and this movie is #100 on AFI’s list of 100 Greatest Love Stories. I think is a good film, a heartwarming story, but I don’t know if I’d put it on my personal list of best romantic movies.

Is this one of your favorite romantic movies?

I haven’t seen The Notebook. I heard it was really sad!

I’m kind of looking forward to seeing Valentine’s Day. I’m told it’s a lot like Love, Actually.
