Welcome Friends!

Birthday Weekend

Jen the Twin and I turn 40 this Sunday. We had big plans for this milestone birthday but they fell through. Today she asked me what I was going to do for my birthday. Since it’s on the weekend, I decided I was going to celebrate both days. In fact, I’d start early and observe this momentuous occasion on Friday. I might take Monday off, too, while I’m at it.

Jennifer replied, “Why not take 40 days to celebrate?”

That made sense to me. “Why not celebrate for the next 365 days?” I asked. “We’re going to be 40 all that time.”

Jennifer’s response? “Now you’re just talking crazy.”

OK, 365 days of partying might be a tad excessive. But 40 days spread thoughout the next year? Jennifer and I can do that. Easy. Now all we have to do is think of some good ways to celebrate.

If you could do anything you wanted, how would you celebrate your birthday? Tell us in the comment section before Tuesday at midnight Pacific Time. On Wednesday, I’ll randomly choose two winners and they will receive a $20 Bath & Body Works gift card.

**Update: Thanks to everyone who shared ideas on the best way to celebrate birthdays! And congratulations to Maisey (commenter #3) and Laney4 (commenter #9). I randomly chose their names and they each receive a $20 Bath & Body Works gift card.**

    Happy Birthday!

When I turned 30, I cut my long hair and donated it to Locks of Love. It was the best way to celebrate my birthday :)

  2. Jen - the Twin says:

That’s perfect – I am getting a new hair style and coloring it for the first time EVER. It’s not long enough for Locks of Love, but I’m excited to start the decade out with a new look. Now if Susanna gets the same style…again!..we will have issues.

  3. Maisey says:

Hmmm…my perfect birthday involves these ingredients:

    My husband

    Items from Victoria’s Secret

    Chocolate

    Mix ingredients as desired. :-)

Reality–he remembers my birthday, takes me out to dinner and even buys me a cake (although it’s in his favorite flavor not mine.)

Fantasy–”Happy Birthday, darling. I’ve won the Powerball and here are the keys to your new bookstore.”

    Happy Birthday!

If I could do anything on my birthday then I would be on a beach in Hawaii.

    Happy Birthday!!

The best way to spend it is either with friends and family. Just everyone coming together for hamburgers and hotdogs and of course cake and presents :) AND the best part is not having to clean up, even though I always seem to on my bdays!!

Don’t add me to the contest part, since I just won a book from the countdown to new release party (still haven’t been able to sit and read it yet, sigh). . . but first off, Happy Birthday to both of you!!! And me, sure, I’d love to go on a trip to space or something, but as long as I get me my ice cream cake from Carvel, I’m nice and happy. If it’s not from there, even if it’s pure chocolate or something, I’m definitely not happy. LOL :)

    Happy Birthday!

My perfect birthday would be going to a luxurious spa and getting pampered all day. Then having a nice home-cooked (not by me) meal, and to finish – lots of cupcakes :)

  9. Laney4 says:

Happy 40th! It’s a great milestone to reach (although any birthday is better than no birthday)!

I turned 50 this year and DH turned 60. We had planned on having a “110th birthday” potluck BBQ with 70-90 friends/relatives after our driveway got paved/widened in early July, but it still isn’t done so no party. (We aren’t happy with the pavers at the moment….)

For our “90th birthday” ten years ago, we hosted a dance with a DJ, told everyone to dress comfortably, and danced the night away.

No matter what you choose to do, I hope you enjoy yourselves!

Well I try to do two of my favorite things on my birthday. To celebrate I take a day off work, and get a good book and go lay out by a pool or the lake. Its that simple. I love to read and love to swim so I combine the two. One of these days I will have one of those huge flat bed like floats that hold 2 or 3 people but I will only have myself on it, so I can sit in the middle with my book ,while floating in the water instead of beside the water. LOL AHH relax, relish, and READ !! lol

  11. Jen - the Twin says:

Wow – a lot of cool ideas. I have to say I like the Hawaii idea :) and lots of chocolate being involved as well!

  12. Dawna says:

Doesn’t matter. If you’re celebrating a birthday, that means you’re still vertical and you haven’t taken your dirt nap yet.

And that’s all that counts!!! :)

  13. Colleen says:

HAPPY HAPPY B-DAY to you and your twin! :D
To celebrate my b-day, I would love to either visit Ireland or spend time at Disney… it has been years since I have been to Disney.

  14. Jane says:

Happy Birthday to you and your twin. I wouldn’t mind spending my birthday sipping champagne in a restaurant in Paris.

  15. Reyna says:

Happy Birthday Susanna and Jen! You should definitely find a way to have a spa weekend together. The rest, relaxation and quality time may keep you from looking anywhere near 40. Who’s the younger one, anyway?

  16. crystal adkins says:

    It’s Sunday!! Happy Birthday girls!!

  17. Susanna Carr says:

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I love your ideas on how to celebrate.

Dawna — I snorted out tea when I read the term “dirt nap”!

  18. kh says:

i have to say vacation now lol

    happy 4oth

    whooooo

  19. Happy Birthday Susanna & Jennifer! Hope you both had a lovely birthday.

Here is how I would love to celebrate my birthday.

First I like to get a manicure, pedicure, get my hair done and come home to a nice home cook meal made by my fiance and watch movies and cuddle till I fall asleep.

    Hugssss

  20. Zara says:

Happy belated Birthday to you both!

My ideal birthday would include going for a pedicure with my daughter, playing the Wii golf/bowling with my son, and then having some alone time with my hubby for more adult activities. Adult activities like, naked monopoly. Just a warning, if anyone does play naked monopoly, watch where you sit. There are just some places hotels should never go lol.

  21. Cheryl S. says:

    Happy 40th Susanna and Jen!
I’m just happy to spend the day with family and usually my mom, who’s in her 70s, still makes my favorite birthday supper. Bless her heart . . . she’s the best!

  22. Jennifer.D says:

If I could do anything for my birthday I would just relax and get pampered! With todays economy and money struggles, I would just like my day to be stress free with no bill’s and all the attention on myself!
Sit in a relaxing herb bubble bath while my husband caters to my every needs! Sound’s better than traveling to me! :) I hope you have a great birthday and get exactly what you want!

  23. CrystalGB says:

Happy Birthday Susanna and Jen! My dream birthday celebration would be a vacation in Australia.
Since I don’t think I will ever get to do that, I would love to go to spa and be pampered, followed by a nice dinner.
