Happy birthday to me!
And how am I celebrating this special occasion? I’m going to Las Vegas for a long weekend. Never been there before, so I’m not sure what to expect.
Of course I will hunt down a piece of cake because it’s tradition. I don’t require candles, and I’ll even go for a cupcake, but I want cake for my birthday. While growing up my mom made and decorated some very cool cakes. My favorite kind was the Milky Way cake which was really made with Milky Way chocolate bars. It was dense, rich and oh-so-delicious. I haven’t had one of those for a while. A friend tried to make it for me when we were in college, but I think Milky Way changed the size of the candy bars because, well, let’s just say my friend’s oven never recovered.
As part of my birthday celebration weekend, I’m giving away a rare signed copy of The Wrong Bride. It’s about twins, and there are a few scenes set in Las Vegas, which is so appropriate for the occasion, don’t you think? (Warning: this book has a very different tone and writing style than the stories I write today.)

Happy Birthday! Have fun in Vegas! Hmmm . . . my favorite kind of cake is actually ice cream cake. I love the crunchy bit in the middle with the cookie crumbs and fudge sauce mixed together.

I would think any cake to be my favorite right now, as I’m doing the Atkins diet. We won’t mention the slip on Halloween, with the fun-size Snickers bars to anyone okay? I will say, the best cake that I have ever had was at my bridal shower, and it had this glorious Italian buttercream frosting. It was fabulous. Eat a piece of cake for me please. I’m living vicariously here lol.

I like chocolate and strawberry flavours of many things, but as for cake, I love coffee cakes. There times when I can eat them for breakfast many days in a row and wouldn’t get sick of them. I don’t drink coffee, but I do love eating it. Yummy.

Milky Way Cake sounds good. Maybe you could post the recipe? My favorite cake is cheesecake, especially Cheesecake Factory. That’s my birthday treat. As for baking with chocolate bars, I like to make brownies from Paula Dean’s Symphony Brownies recipe. Just a brownie mix box and chocolate bars in the middle of the batter. Never fails. And you can try different kinds of chocolate bars.
Hi Susanna, I hope you great time in Vegas and celebrating there will always be very memorable! My favorite cake is a tie between Champagne and Black Forest cake. There both are so yummy and rich I only have them once in a blue moon. Now that I’ve seen all the cakes listed and mine I’m craving a big piece right now.

Never heard of the Milky Way cake, but for me, it always has to be Carvel ice cream cake. And I sure don’t care it’s two days before Christmas where it’s usually cold out here in NJ (though, with global climate change, not always), but still — my birthday, my cake!
